Prasad Chanchal (SBI PO 2014 - A weeks dedicated Preparation)

One of our Ardent reader Prasad Chanchal has shared his success story with us. Please read on the Unedited Story-

Name - Prasad Chanchal
Post - SBI PO 2014

Hi ,I am Prasad Chanchal. I am from a small town called Sitamarhi Bihar . However I pursued my education from various places like Wardha , Chennai & Noida . After having completed my M.Tech in Aerospace Engineering I was at sixes and sevens as in what career should I opt for as private engineering jobs didn't lure me much. Later having done lots of analyses on my interests and potentials I decided to opt for exclusive preparation for UPSC and began doing it from Chennai .

Along with my UPSC preparation I preferred appearing for other government examinations seeking my safety net in course of my preparation. SBI PO Examination was one of few Govt exams I appeared for in this year . As I was doing intense preparation for UPSC and its coaching there wasn't much time I could dedicate for Bank and other examinations. But then it being my first attempt, to get an idea I purchased Arihant's SBI PO combo book along with last year question papers and started regularly visiting career adda and Bankers Adda. which helped me  in staying in right direction in the course and saved time by offering relevant n concrete materials . I dedicated four days to exclusive PO exam preparation by practicing almost all the last year Question and the Practice sets . UPSC preparation had kept me updated with the General Awareness Section . With my aptitude section and General English knowledge being fine I felt confident as I was able to score fairly in two hours exam sessions at home .

The written Exam was on 28th June in morning shift , I began with DI section which was very challenging and got me bit nervous.I could attempt merely 3-4 questions in initial 15 minutes . I took a minute to calm down and gave way to nervousness. I decided not to go for guesses and attempted only the ones I was sure of . I ended up doing merely 97/200 . I felt bit disheartened as the figure was way less than my regular performance at home . But then my accuracy being good I cleared in the written phase .

My GD and Interview was scheduled to be on 13th Oct 2014 . The GD topic was quiet easy and I could deliver well . My interview went for 12 minutes ( I was the second last candidate ) . As my passion lies in Sports arena there were several questions from sports section . I was also interrogated about the importance of my home town and about my graduation subjects in bits . I could answer most of the questions and looked confident and spoke fluently while answering .

The results were finally pronounced and I was hell astonished and equally overjoyed finding my roll number in the final list . I thanked almighty.

Suggestions to future aspirants :

Dear Friends,

Today no one is devoid of knowledge of the price of a Government Job . In our quest of striving hard to achieve one what really matters is the right and dedicated approach. There are few who are blessed with fair aptitude skills owing to hard work in earlier classes but then for others it can be undoubtedly earn provided dedicated practice is done in plenty . One edge we have in these examinations is that unlike UPSC the pattern is so static and transparent . Questions in bank examinations hugely follow similar pattern almost every time  . Hence we can very well judge where we stand as per our performance in practice sets at home table .

One of the common myths one can avoid is the comparison of number of attempts . It doesn't matter how many question one attempts but how many you attempt right alone counts . Know another fact that Coaching Centres can only fetch you guidance , skill improvement has to be done by self and ample practice is the sole Mantra .

Have a pre defined approach to various sections in examination . Work on the area you are weak at in abundance . Don't get jumbled by others approach , performance and feedbacks . Do Quality Study . Waste few minutes in finalising what is relevant instead of wasting hours on irrelevant stuffs. Work hard and never forget success would certainly bend one day before your honest efforts .

  3. Shobhit Agrawal .. Thanks a lot for your feedback .. Mera course integrated 5 years ka course tha .. B.Tech + M.Tech ... maine one week dedicated preparation likha hai only a week prep nahi.. mai UPSC aspirant hu ek saal se n ab bhi .. bank jobs ke liye kabhi koi coaching separate nhi liya but took coaching for UPSC .. n maine ye share bas unke liye kiya hai jo ye believe krte hai ki we cant do multiple exam preparations simultaneously.. tumhe yakin dilane ke liye nahi..

  11. Dear chanchal pravin i want to tell u something that u r at a place from where no body can remove u.. no matter what others say about u or ur success story, the fact wont change that u r a winner.. so i dont think there is any need to prove anyone about ur dedication towards ur studies or ur capabilities to achieve ur goals in a week or more than that.. u are here just to tell ur story to the world and not give successive interviews to every one who reads it and do not relate with it..

All the best for ur UPSC examination..

  19. Dear Chanchal,

This is really a great achievement to clear SBI PO which is considered to be one of the toughest Indian gov exam. This is not about clearing the SBI PO its about clearing in a week preparation by the candidate who was not from main stream preparation of general competition.
I take this info sharing as a great motivational guide for those who are preparing for general competition, and it will be really helpful for the people who only rely on coaching institute for their success.

Thank you very much for sharing this info. All the very best for your future. Sky is the limit.
